About Us

Shirley Goodness, and Mercy Will, wrote Cooking Up Mother Goose and Fairy Tale Feast to help teachers, moms and others who love to cook with children connect up to books by way of food. This naturally led to writing about their favorite picture books and figuring out ways to connect them to kids who were hungry for good reading.

Shirley is a retired teacher and children's book lover who enjoys puttering in the kitchen and sharing recipes with people. Her favorite cooking show is America's Test Kitchen, and she wishes that there might somebody be a food channel cooking show just for kids that uses picture books and easy recipes to help kids (and grownups) COOK UP READING. She also encourages teachers and librarians to relentlessly promote reading every chance they get, because, she says, "Reading isn't the most important thing. It's the ONLY thing!"

Mercy Will is, sadly, no longer cooking up reading on the earthly plane.
